Did you know that 74 percent of the region’s employees commute to work in their cars alone? By changing your solo commuting habit one day a week or more, you can save money, reduce air pollution, and cut your personal greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 percent.

Start your greener commute to work by carpooling, vanpooling, taking transit, walking, bicycling or working from home. If you already have a green commute, take this opportunity to try something different or add an extra day.

Environmental Impacts Avoided!

The most obvious environmental impact of driving alone to work is air pollution. Many vehicle exhaust gases have negative health effects at a local level, particularly respiratory effects. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a naturally occurring gas that also is produced by burning fossil fuels such as gasoline.  Reducing carbon dioxide emissions is a way to lower our risk of climate change.  Concern about climate change is growing rapidly, and employers are investing considerable resources and effort into limiting their emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
